Gift caricature - drawing and mug print
Project: a gift caricature drawn with coloured pencils, digitised and prepared for mug printing and print use.
Idea
The gift caricature was made for a person connected with gastronomy. The drawing needed to show the recipient's character and work on a mug, so it had to stay readable after being moved onto a small surface.
There were two layers to balance: the portrait itself and the work context. If the piece used only generic props, the gift would lose its personal meaning. If it had too many details, the mug print would become hard to read.
Execution
I made the drawing with coloured pencils, then prepared it for further use. The gastronomy details were worked into the composition so they supported the person instead of covering the face.
After digitising, the illustration could be used on a mug and in print. One drawing therefore worked both as a practical gift and as a keepsake beyond the object itself.
How the illustration was made
The process combined a traditional coloured pencil drawing with file preparation for printing.
