Digital caricature - self-portrait in Procreate
Project: a self-portrait as a digital caricature, created on an iPad in Procreate and prepared for print.
Idea
The digital caricature self-portrait was meant to show how an exaggerated portrait can be used beyond a classic gift. The drawing could go onto paper, a mug, a bag or a T-shirt, so it needed a strong silhouette and a readable face.
A self-portrait is harder than working from a client photo because it is easy to soften traits that should be pushed in a caricature. I had to keep distance and treat my own face as drawing material.
Execution
I drew the self-portrait on an iPad in Procreate, strengthening proportions and expression so the piece felt humorous without losing the likeness.
I prepared the final file for several uses: print, online publishing and product printing. It shows that a digital caricature can work as a gift, a personal graphic or a relaxed identity element.
