Idea

The PRL posters had to connect two recognisable worlds: cars from the Polish PRL period and motifs from cult films and TV series. The series needed a retro feel without looking like a copied old poster.

The biggest risk was clutter. The car, film reference, poster feel and period mood all had to work together so the viewer could catch the joke quickly and still want to hang the artwork on a wall.

Execution

I started with traditional pencil sketches to set the car proportions and the main idea for each scene. Only then did I move the work into Photoshop, where I added colour, texture and retro effects.

Each illustration was prepared with poster printing in mind. The series therefore keeps a shared visual language, while every piece has its own motif and works as a separate artwork.

How it was made

How the illustration was made

The series moved from pencil sketches to final posters with retro Photoshop treatment.

Series idea

I first connected specific cars with film motifs so each poster had its own clear joke.

Pencil sketch

The traditional sketch helped set the car shape and main proportions without getting distracted by the final treatment.

Digital treatment

In Photoshop I added colour, texture and an old-poster mood while keeping the car readable.

Print files

At the end I prepared the artworks as posters, ready to use at a larger format.
